Extend Canada Study Visa

Every study permit has an expiry date at the top right corner of the permit. You need to complete your study program within that given period. If you want to extend a Study Visa, you need to contact the Canada Immigration department. You can stay in the state for the duration of your study program, and you can also apply for an extra 90-days so that you can prepare for your departure from Canada. In case your passport expires during this period, then the extra time will be reduced to 30-days. 

When to extend a Study Visa?

After 90-days of the duration of the respective study program, your study permit will expire. You need to apply for the extension at least 30-days before its expiry because you cannot extend the permit after it expires. If you can not apply for the extension before its expiry, you have to leave Canada without any delay. Thus, if you want to keep studying, you must apply for a visa extension.

What should you do if the permit expires during your stay in Canada?

Your stay will be illegal after the expiry of your permit. In addition, you can do the following things.

  • You need to specify some valid reasons such as medical or academic reasons to claim your new permit. 
  • Apply for a new study permit.
  • Apply for a work permit.
  • You can apply to change your status as a visitor. 

When will Study Permit expire?

On the first day of your degree completion, you will receive an email from your designated school that indicate the end of your study program. The letter you receive will be in the form of an email. 

How to extend a Study Visa?

Make sure that your school is on the list of Designated Learning Institutions only then you can apply to extend your study permit. If not, then first you have to enrol in any of the DLI to apply for an extension.
